Starvation In Holland
LONDON, March 5. The first troops lo liberate the great ciries oil occupied Holland will sec the most distressing sights in Western Europe. according to the diplomatic correspondent of (he “Observer.” People who have escaped from occupied Holland recently have brought a grim picture of the starving population there. Starvation point in Northern Holland was reached at the New Year, after which the situation steadily deteriorated; In Western Holland, cultivation has been reduced to nil by the flooding of the land by the Germans as a defence measure or by lack of fuel for the pumps. Eastern Holland has some potatoes, but they cannot be transported to the west because of'the destruction of railways and (he requisition by the Germans of all the remaining transport.
