Musical Instrument Presented

Presentation, of a flugal horn, a musical instrument, bought in a German prison camp for 450 cigarettes, was made to the Whangarei Municipal Silver Band last night by private George Carr, „ a bandsman returned from overseas after being repatriated from a German prison camp. The horn was made by the firm of Schuster’s in Germany, and was engraved appropriately for the gift by a German Jew in the prison camp, using a piece of broken file. Private Carr procured the instrument in exchange for cigarettes, which formed the main bartering medium in the camp.
