Finns Declare War On Germany
LONDON, March 4,
■ The Finnish Government has formally declared war on Germany, states an official announcement from Helsinki. The announcement said the Government yesterday unanimously approved a statement by the Prime Minister (M. Paasikivi), in which he recalled that the Germans had not fulfilled the Finnish demand that they withdraw their troops from Finland by September 15 under the Russian armistice terms.
The Germans instead opened action against the Finns in the Gulf of Finland. “Therefore,” proclaimed the, statement, “a state of war has existed between Finland and Germany since September 15.” The British United Press correspondent points out that the date of the declaration—March 3 is the last date for countries which want to be invited to the San Francisco conference to declare war against Germany.
