Says Mrs. Churchill Visited Bay Of Islands

Contrary to recently-published statements,” Mrs Winston Churchill has visited New Zealand, states Mrs M. G. Cross, of Kamo Road, Whangarei, but previously of Deep Water Cove Bay of Islands. Mrs Cross states that Mrs Churchill visited the Bay of Islands in February, 1932, on board Lord Moyne's steam yacht, “Rasoura,” and did not, as was recently reported leave the yacht in Australia. Mrs Churchill, with other members of the party spent eight days’ fishing in the Bay of Islands.

Another member' of the party was Mr Phillips, of the staff of “Punch.” while Lady Broughton was a guest at Deep Water Cove during the visit of Mrs Churchill. The party were deeply interested in the deep-sea fishing and in this they were successful in securing some fine specimens of swordfish. With the consent of the Government, specimens of tuatara lizards were secured from the Poor Knights Islands, off the coast, and taken. to England for the London Zoo. During the visit to the Bay of Islands, although Mrs Churchill lived on board the yacht, she was a frequent visitor to Deep Water Cove, After leaving New Zealand the “Rasoura” went to the New Hebrides to collect further specimens for the London Zoo.
