Major R. M. Harding

ROLL OF HONOUR

Official advice has been received that Major Richard Massey Harding, of Dargaville, has been killed while on active service. Born at Aoroa 30 years ago, the late Major Harding was a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Harding, of Aoroa. He was educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School and the Ruakura Experimental Farm. Before proceeding overseas in May of last year, Major Harding was attached to the Territorial Forces for two years, and latterly was attached to the 21st Battalion of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Italy. In pre-war days he carried on the occupation of a farmer at Aoroa, and married Miss Lorna Smith, a daughter of Mrs. S. S. Smith, of Dargaville. There are two children. The Harding family bas a great record of war service, as in the last two wars, four sons and one daughter have gone overseas in the cause of freedom and Empire.
