Helping Abortionist?

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Statutes Amendment Bill was considered in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr. J. T. Watts (Oppn.-Riccarton) referred to a provision in the Bill prohibiting the supplying of information regarding the condition of a hospital inmate and said it appeared to him that it helped the abortionist and would do nothing to help stamp out the evil which was so prevalent in New Zealand today. A committee had been set up in 1937 to go into the question and had made a number of recommendations, not many of which had been put into operation. The Minister should, as soon as' possible, tighten up the law so that further steps could be taken to stamp out this dreadful evil. The debate was interrupted when the House adjourned at 5.30 until 2.30 on Tuesday.
