West Coast Harbours

WELLINGTON. This Day
The Minister for Marine, (Hon. J. O’Brien) has announced the appointment of , a committee of engineers to inquire, into and report on the work required to effect immediate improvements in the harbours of Westport and Greymouth, with a view to restoring them as far a:; possible to normal trading conditions. The committee will consist of the late Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department (Mr. J. Wood), the Superintendent of the Auckland Harbour Board (Mr. D. Holderness), the District Engineer of the Public Works Department, Wellington, and formerly of Greymouth (Mr. T. A. Johnston). : The committe is proceeding to the West Coast tomorrow, and their report, when received, will be considered immediately by the Government. The Minister added that the matter of whether all-weather harbours were possible on the West Coast of the South Island, * and if so, where they Could be situated, will be referred to engineers with world-wide experience of such questions.
