Electricity Switched On At Waiharara

(Special. KAITAIA, This Day. The extension of electric power to the. Far North was advanced a further stage last night when the switching-on ceremony was held at Waiharara, 16 miles north of Kaitaia and nine miles north of the previous limit of reticulation at Waipapakauri. When Mrs. M. Srhoj threw the main switch at the hall, which switch controlled not only the inferior' lighting but also the floodlights outside the building, the contrast between the new and the old method, with kerosene lamps, was most marked.

Presiding at the gathering was the chairman of the Bay of Islands Power Eoard (Mr. L. Peace), while other speakers were Mr. W. J. Steed, representing the Mangonui County Council, and Mr. M. Srhoj, snr., who expressed the appreciation of the settlers for the efforts of the power board in bringing electric power into the Far North. Members of the power board staff from both Kaitaia and Kaikohe were present, as were electrical contractors from Kaitaia.
