New Regulation Covering Marketing Of Honey
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The new season’s regulations covering the marketing of honey ' were gazetted vesterday. For the past two seasons all beekeepers owning 20 hives or more have been required to forward 70 per cent, pi their production to the Internal Marketing Division, since it was feared that with the keen demand, honey would be bought by those having direct access to the apiarists and insufficient quantities would be available for ships, si ores, hospitals, prisoner-of-war parcels, the Armed Forces and civilian priorities. The new regulations still require a proportion of the national crop to 'be sent' to the Mai'keting Division for such distribution. However, the auantity. is now set at 30 lbs. per hive from each hive over 19 owned by the individual, and provision is made to cover the position when the production of the apiary falls below 30 lbs. per hive. Beekeepers may dispose of die balance of their crop in the usual manner, except that there is a limit of 5 lbs. on retail sales at the apiary to any one .purchaser. Tile price being paid by the division in the coming season will be the wholesale price ruling last year. This is 74' Pgr lb; for first grade honey, with a pro rata reduction for lower duality. In sales direct to consimrers, beekeepers must not cxeeocl the current ceiling retail prices.
