Kamo Mine Still

No work, except for that of the safety men and ordinary maintenance, was carried out at the Kamo Collieries today, the miners having decided that, until the Mines’ -Council visits the colliery and discusses, on the ground, the men’s grievances, no coal will be produced. This decision was made at a meeting of miners yesterday afternoon and the decision communicated to the Mines’ Council. So far no indication has been given by the authorities just when the members of the Council will visit Kamo but in reply to an urgent question asked of the Minister for Mines in parliament yesterday afternoon, by Mr A. J. Murdoch. M.P.. Mr Webb said that arrangements were being made for the Council to visit Kamo at the first opportunity. Mr Murdoch asked the Minister whether the Council could visit Kamo mine to discuss with employees anomalies in salaries, wages and causes of unrest among the men. The deputies and underviewers have been informed by the Mines Controller that the Council will visit Kamo within 10 days.
