Methodist Sunday School Anniversary At Kaitaia

(Special) KAITAIA, This Day Sunday was children’s day at the Kaitaia Methodist Church, when a large congregation attended the Sunday School anniversary service and prize-giving. A feature was the presence of a large number of young people from the Oturu combined Sunday School.

Main attraction for parents and friends was the children’s singing, in which they gave bright and confident, renditions of well-known young people’s hymns, reflecting much credit on their teachers. The children also gave a choral-speaking rendition of the 121st Psalm, while James Torrie read from Scripture reading and Shirley Whitburn sang a solo. The Oturu Maori children displayed natural harmony of pleasing sweetness in their singing of "The Old Rugged Cross.’’ Rev. L. R. M. Gilmour, who conducted the service, spoke on the parable of the Good Samaritan. Presentotion of prizes for attendance during tin* year completed the service. , The Sunday School superintendent (Mrs. O. Williams) and the organist (Mrs. R. C. Williams), were mainly responsible l'or the training of the young people. At the social gathering which followed the Oruru children, by special request, sang several hymns, one in the Maori longue, and ladies of Ihe church served afternoon tea.
