Higher Maize Subsidy
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day A further subsidy of 6d. a bushel on ail maize grown and marketed through the Maize Marketing Committee during 1945 is announced by the Minister for Agriculture (Hon. B. Roberts). This makes the total subsidy for the 1944-45 season 1/per bushel. Mr. _ Roberts said that maize was of vital importance to the poultry industry, and owing to the serious stock food position in Australia, if was necessary for New Zealand to be as self-supporting in maize production its possible. The objective for (be current planting season is 10,000 acres, and the Government is sure that when maize growers realise the seriousness of the position, they will
make every endeavour in the principal maize-growing districts of Poverty Bay and Bay of Plenty, to increase production to a maximum.
