Seize Vast German Arms Plant In Lorraine
LONDON, October 3
The Americans have seized a vast German plant at Lorraine, where a wide range of guns was produced, also steel shell-cases for 88s at the rate of 150,000 a month, st|tes Associated Press. The plant covered 10 acres and was equipped with modern machinery, including some made in the United States. An old Frenchman said the buildings started when the Germans were restoring French industry under the terms of Versailles reparations. The economic crisis intervened and the Germans returned in 1940 with complete blue-prints and took up work where they left off.
The plant reached its peak production in 1943 and was going full blast when the Americans arrived.
