To House London’s Blitzed Population

(Roc. 1 p.m.) LONDON. October 3. The Government is taking drastic measures to provide adequate housing for hundreds of thousands in London before the winter sets in.

The chairman of the War Damage Commission (Sir Trustam Eve) has announced lire conscription of all London builders for the repair of houses damaged by fly-ing-bombs. and the recruiting of 30.000 men from the provinces. Sir Trustam Eve, declared that large London buildings, possibly including hotels, would be requisitioned to house the workers. No building work would be allowed in London except bomb-damage repair. “There will have to be temporary huts for many Londoners but I do not want the public to get the impression that I am going to have hutment camps all over London.”

A million houses already have received ‘field dressings.”
