Whangarei Resident Has 87th Birthday
Resident of Whangarei for a number of years, Mrs. M. Walker, now residing at King Street, celebrated her 87th birthday on Sunday. Her father, Mr. Johnston, was a cabinetmaker ol Auckland and for some time drove the Onehunga bus. Mrs. Walker married when young and with her husband took up farming in the Waikiekic district, where, for many years, they lived with their family, afterwards retiring to live in Whangarei, where her husoand predeceased her 16 years ago. Mrs. Walker’s youngest son was killed in the last war, while one son is a veteran of the Boer War. Mrs. Walker has seven children surviving, of whom four are sons—Messrs E. Walker (Whakatane), J. Walker (Hamilton), O. Walker (Te Awamutu) and P. Walker (Waikiekie) —and three are daughters—Mesdames M. Dodds (Maunui, A. Mayhall (Matakohe) and H. Moore (Christchurch.) There are 32 grandchildren, 34 great-grand-children and one great-great-grandchild.
