One-Day Transport Strike
MELBOURNE. This Day
No trams or buses ran in Melbourne on Saturday because of a one-day strike by .3000 members of Ihe Tramways Employees’ Association. At a slopwork meeting it was decided to ask for the release of men from the Army so that a six-day week shift might be worked. Lack of tram and bus transport to sporting fixtures resulted in record overcrowding of trains. Four people required hospital attention for injuries received in a wild station scramble.
