Whangarei Anglers Decide On Policy

Comprehensive draft rules for the Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers’ Club were adopted at a special genera] meeting of the club in Whangarei on Friday, when the president (Mr L. Waldron) presided. The rules provided for all phases of both deep-sea biggame fishing and harbour fishing, as it was the general opinion of the meeting that the small boat and light rod fisherman could be studied. Decision was made to seek incorporation with the Anglers’ Association. After discussing the question of subscriptions, it was decided, in view of the nature of the club, to review subscriptions at every annual meeting For the ensuing year memmbership fee tor deep-water big-game fishing will be £l. and 10 - for all othei ! types of fishing; 5-'- for women who I desire to partake in any activity of I the club, and 2/6 for all types of fish-1 ing by juniors. To cater for visiting j tourists from overseas a subscription of 2gns was provided. j Decision was also made to award] trophies and certificates for different type of competitive fishing, such as for the best weight for given events; for specified types of fish, and for aggregate weight through the season. It was felt that trophies and mementoes should take an original and practical form rather than the conventional cups.

Subject of considerable discussion among the large number of members present was the question of a public opening day, and it was stated that it was hdped to organise a public rally for an outing clown the harbour in November, although such an arrangement was necessarily dependent upon oil fuel grants to boat owners. Indications were given that already the membership of the club stood at 121, which included a number of fishermen from outside districts, even as far south as Wellington.
