Devastating Celebes Raid

Allied airmen from the South-west Pacific have made another devastating raid on Japanese positions in the Celebes. Liberators attacKing in two waves on Saturday, smashed airfields and shipping with a record bomb load of 200 tons.

In their mounting air offensive. General MacArthur’s bombers in the past eight days have dropped more than 1000 ton? of explosives on Celebes targets. The main attacks have been concentrated on the big Japanese base at Manado. In Saturday’s raid aerodromes, barracks and waterfront ' installations were hit. A 2000-ton freighter was sunk and a 4000-ton vessel was forced to beach after a direct hit and a near-miss.
