Parliament May Sit Until End Of Year

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An indication that Parliament might remain in session until nearly Christmas or even longer, according to the development of events in Europe, was given by the Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser) when the House met yesterday afternoon The Prime Minister added, however, that he hoped the House might adjourn towards the end of October for two, three or four weeks. Mr W. J. Poison (Oppn.-Stratford); Have you got enough business to keep the House sitting until the end of October? Mr Fraser said there were one or two very important bills coming, including a project which the late Minister for Housing (Mr Armstrong), had in mind before the war —legislation for slum clearance. That involved important local body issues and would require careful consideration. Mr Fraser said other matters upon which legislation would be introduced included the Government’s responsibility in connection with U.N.R.R.A.. an amendment to the Quarries Act. and extension, of war damage insurance to give earthquake insurance.

There were also a number of other items for legislation including a number of small ones to be included in the states revision “Washing-Bp’’ Bill.
