Lieutenant. C. M. Simister, who has been attached to a Fijian infantry regiment in the Pacific war zone, has returned to New Zealand on furlough, according to advice received by his parents, Sgl. and Mrs. W. H. Simister, of the police department at Kaitaia. Mr. K. D. Croft, of Auckland, is visiting Kaikohe on railway audit business. Hi* has been previously to Dargaville anci Gkaihau, and plans to go on to Gtiria. Kawakawa. Opua. Kaitaia and then back to Whangarei. A Rugby referee in the city, Mr. Croft took an afternoon off m Saturday's rain to watch the KaikoheKaeo senior match at Kaikohe.
The; Rev. Robert Barton Gosncll died suddenly just before the commencement of morning service l at Ashburton yesterday. Aged 61, he entered the Methodist Ministry over 40 years ago and was stationed at Takapuna, Greytcwn. St. Albans (Christchurch), the Wairarapa. Taranaki. Hastings, Wellington and Ashburton. He loaves a widow and throe sons, one formerly in the Middle East, and one in Italy, and three daughters.
While attending a meeting of the Public Service Association of New Zealand in Wellington on Thursday night, Mr Frank W. Millar, secretary of that organisation, suffered a stroke and had to be removed to hospital. Mr Millar formerly held a responsible position with the Education Department, from which he resigned to takeup secretarial duties with the association.
