Mr. S. J. Bishop Retires
(Spec.) ■ AUCKLAND, This Day. The first headmaster of the Orakei School (Mr. S. J. Bishop) who is retiring yesterday, after 42 years’service to education, was farewelled at the school yesterday. < Mr. Bishop, who was born in Auckland, served in the army overseas in the last war and for a short period after the armistice he was attached to the Army Education Service as a lecturer in agriculture. His first appointment as headmaster was at the Mercury Bay School, where he remained for three, years. He was successively headmaster aT Whau Valley, Whangarei, for six years, Otaki, Wellington, for three years and Papakura for three years.
Mr. Bishop is a keen student of nature and at Whau Valley and Orakei he was. responsible for the large-scale planting of native trees. The new headmaster ■ appointed to the Orakei School is Mr. A. L. Harris, M.A., of Ruawai, who will take up hio new duties at the beginning of the third term.
