Farewell Rev. And Mrs. Cole
Marking (he esteem in which the Rev. J. C. A. Cole and Mrs. Cole have been held during the five years Mr. Cole has been in charge of the Hikurangi parish, a number of farewell gatherings have been held prior to their leaving at the end of the month. Mr. Cole will be taking charge of All Saints parish at Wanganui in (he Wellington diocese. The Parish Hall, Hikurangi. was filled by representatives of all sections of the community, at a farewell function when Mr. J. Hardie, on behalf of the residents, in presenting a cheque to Mr. Cole, spoke of the regret of the people at the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Cole, and their family. The deep sincerity of Mr. and Mrs. Cole, he said, had endeared them to (he people of .the district. The presentation of a bouquet was made to Mrs. Cole. Appreciation of the loyalty and friendship shown by the people of the district to himself, his wife, and family, was expressed by Mr. Cole, when thanking Mr. Hardie and (he people for their gift. On the occasion of the last visit of Mr. Cole to Glenbervie, local residents gathered to bid him and Mrs. Cole farewell and a presentation was made, not only to Mr. and Mrs. Cole, but also to their two children. Mrs. N. Horrobin speaking for the pakehas and Mrs. W. Kake for the Maori members of the community.
Having formed the scout troop in Hikurangi four years ago, and carried out the duties of scoutmaster during that period. Mr. Cole had made a name for himself with the youth of Hikurangi, and the scouts gathered to bid him farewell and a presentation was made, on behalf. of the scouts, by Patrol Leader J. Campbell. For Monday afternoon the people of Kamo have organised a valedictory function.
