At Bayeux Hospital yesterday a correspondent of "The Times" heard I what he describes as a terrible i story of German treatment of Rus- , si an prisoners in the Channel Islands ■ where they had been sent to work jon fortifications.
j Of a group of 2000 only 1000 were ! alive after six months. Of these, only j 500 were able to stand. They were given sacks for clothing and footwear ; and suffered unspeakable tortures j from rubber truncheons by their j guards. Eventually 500 dying men j were brought to the mainland through : Cherbourg. Allied planes destroyed ! the locomotive of their train and five I managed to crawl into the fields i where French people. found them | starving and handed them over to the I nuns. They lived for months in capj tivitv on 200 grammes of bread daily.
