Latest Army Ballot
(P. A.) WELLINGTON. This Day A further “Gazette” notice calling up for service in the armed forces 7071 men was published yesterday. The minority of them are youths who have attained the age cf 18 since the issue of the previous ballot in November. The Minister of National Service (Hon A. McLugan) said that under the present policy these youths would not be required
for full-time* mobilisation before reaching the age of 20. except these w!v> volunteered for and were accepted by the An Force. In those circumstances no useltd purpose could be served meantime in appealing on the ground of undue hardship or by reason of occupation. Adequate facilities for appeal in such cases would be afforded wherever desired pri.tr to any mobilisation following attainment of the age of 20. The “Gazette” included, however, a number of men who, by reason of their age. might be called immediately for fulltime service, and in those cases if there were grounds for seeking postponement it wonki be necessary for the right of appeal to be exercised without deiay. The Minister also pointed mit lhai youths and others in the ballot v.ho weenot fully mobilised at an early dale would be subject later 1o selection for one month's service in the Territorial Force. Special notice would be given in such cases, and there would later be an opportunity for lodging appeals.
