British Submarines Attack Enemy Convoy

(8.0. W.) RUGBY, June 5. An Admiralty communique states that British submarines, continuing the offensive against enemy and enemy-controlled shipping in the Mediterranean and Aegean. have sunk another two large supplyvessels, two medium-sized, 22 small and five naval auxiliaries. In addition, seven supply ships, including two of medium size, have been damaged. Among these successes was the sinking of a large strongly-escorted supply ship bound for Crete with’ munitions.

In the same area another large supply ship was tornedoed and sunk and a number of small vessels destroyed by gunfire. . . .

Naval auxiliaries destroyed by British submarines included a medium-sized salvage vessel, a minesweeper, and a heavily armed vessel, believed to be a minelayer. During these operations British submarines successfully bombarded a number of shore targets, including an oil refinery on the Italian coast, a railway goods yards and a plane hanger on the south coast of France and a radio station on Crete.
