A War Office statement revealed that Mr. Churchill and President Roosevelt agreed at Casablanca early in 1943 to knock Italy out'before invading France, even though they knew it would delay the western assault until 1944. Mr. Churchill and Mr. Roosevelt approved of the battle plans at Quebec in August, 1943, but the exact time was left to General Eisenhower.
