Plans For Creche In Whangarei
Co-operation m the conducting of a creche in Whangarei was solicited of the Whangarei Borough Council last night in a letter from the Northland Creche Society, which stated that a provisional committee to undertake the work of obtaining all necessary information regarding the establishment of a day nursery had been appointed. The site and type of the building to be erected was in the hands of a sub-committee and an advisory board.
As the principal intention of the day nursery was to relieve mothers of young children when shopping, on business or visiting hospitals, it was proposed to open the creche between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. with a fully qualiied supervisor in charge, to care for children of any age up to, but not including, five years, and to serve one light meal at midday- with fruit in the afternoon at charge of either 3d or 6d.
As the need for a day nursery in Whangarei was recognised as urgent the creche committee was circulating all organsiations to ascertain their willingness to co-operate, especially regarding material support when a public appeal was launched and a membership list opened, as well as to ask each organisation to appoint a representative to the next public meeting. Cr. J. E. Henderson was appointed as the council’s representative.
