BERGHAN.—Farmer and storekeeper of Ahipara, has represented Ahipara Riding on Mangonui County Council since 1938; member of Ahipara Domain Board; president of Ahipara branch of patriotic committee. Born in Ahipara. attended Auckland University where lie studied law; returned to the Far North in 1930.
Awanui Riding
MR. YV. J. BELL. —Member of Kaitaia branch of Farmers' Union; secretary of Kaitaia Pig Club from foundation until recessed after outbreak of war. Resident of Kaitaia district for approximately 25 years. Before commencing farming at Kaingaroa five years ago, was on stall' of Kaitaia Post Oflice. Served for 18 months in a N.Z. home defence unit until June last. Mr. E. M. GAVE. —Farmer of Parapara for last 20 years; former director of Oruru-Fairburn Co-op Dairy Company Ltd, former chairman of the Kaingaroa primary school committee; settled in district in 1916 under soldiers’ settlement scheme, served for two years in N.M.R. in present war, born in England came to New Zealand in 1912.
MR, P. M. SULENTA—Retired farmer of Awanui, naturalised subject oi l New Zealand for over 30 years. Born in Yugoslavia, arrived in New Zealand as a youth in 1893; has waited on Government on several occasions as a member of deputations attempting to solve grievances of Slavonic population of New Zealand, particularly those of Northland; has studied subjects ox lav/ and commerce.
Herekino Riding
MR. W. P. HALES.—In past 13 years has broken in dairy farm. During last war was for year war correspondent of “London Sporting Times” and later journalist in South America for two years; travelled extensively as private secretary to father, Mr A. G. Hales, the well-known war correspondent and author of “McGlusky” books. Candidate also farmed in Canada and Florida, coming to Dominion from Australia in 1915. F.U. member. MR. L. A. URLICII. —No previous local body experience; member of Herekino primary school committee. Secretary Herekino branch of patriotic committee. Born in Awanui, he has been farming in the Far North for approximately 25 years. Houhora Riding (Returned Unopposed.) MR. W. J. STEED—(sitting), Storekeeper. butcher and baker of Waiharara. Representative of Mangonui County on power board for past two years, sitting representative of the Oruru Riding on the Mangonui County Council for 12 years; sitting member of the Mangonui Hospital Board for past nine years. Justice of the Peace for 13 years. Born Auckland. Came North in 1901. Kaitaia Riding' MR. F. HOLDER.—(sitting), Councillor for Kaitaia riding. 1914-17, 192944; director of N. Auckland Farmers’ Co-op., Ltd. Synodsman for Kaitaia Parish. Former member of Mangonui Hospital Board; past president of Kaitaia Farmers’ Union. One of first commissioners on Kaitaia Town Board; former president of Kaitaia Agricultural and Pastoral Association; was provisional director of Moerewa Freezing Works. Kaitaia farmer since 1914.
MR. D. KITCHEN, farmer, of Takahue, lias been a member of the Mangonui Hospital Board for a term of over three years. Representative of the Victoria Valley Riding on the council for more than three years; director of Kaitaia Co-op. Dairy Company, Ltd. Boer War veteran. Born at Ahipara, he acquired his present property at Takahue after returning from lasl war.
Mangonui Riding
MR. V. N. BEASLEY.— Accountant, of Mangonui, appointed to Mangonui County Council a year ago; no additional local body experience. Born in Christchurch, he has been a resident of the Mangonui district for the past six years; for 12 years was in business in Wellington as a public accountant and for over 20 years was connected with newspaper advertising work.
Mil. T. H. E. WlLTON.—Garage and taxi proprietor, of Mangonui; no previous local body experience, member of Mangonui Primary School and Dental Clinic Committees; volunteered for service in air force in present war and was in uniform for a period of 18 months prior to being released. Born in Mangonui, entered business 13 years ago.
Oruru Riding
MIL C. J. E. BARRIBALL (Sitting), farmer, of Oruru. Representative of Oruru Riding on council for 21 year's, chairman for past six years. Member of Mangonui Hospital Board for approximately 17 years. Director of Oruru-Fairburn Co-op. Dairy Company, Ltd., for about 20 years; committeeman of Mangonui Primary Production Council; member of executive New Zealand Counties’ Association; on Main Highways District Council.
MIL A. F. GARTONFarmer-garage proprietor and theatre proprietor of Oruru. No previous local body experience; member of Oruru primary school committee; member of Oruru-Taipa Beach Improvement Society. Returned soldier of last war; served 12 months in territorial forces in present war. Born in district where he has been in business for 24 years.
Victoria Valley Riding
MR. E. F. BRADLEY, farmer, of Takahue. Member of power board since foundation in 1937. Fully qualified engineer with N.Z., English and American credentials. Served in last war with New Zealand Field Engineers for three years. Born in district, leaving to attend the School of Mines at an early age. He returned about nine years ago, having, during the interval, travelled in a civil and military capacity through 27 countries.
