Huge Turnover By Patriotic Fund Board
OR.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. More than £500,000 had been expended up to the end of last financial year, September, 1943, by the National Patriotic Fund Board and provincial patriotic councils in assisting New Zealand fighting forces. Details are shown in a return taken out recently by the board. Besides bands that have been equipped and are now overseas with the New Zealand troops, many radios and pianos have been supplied out of patriotic funds. The cost of providing band instruments, radios and pianos to the end of September lasi was £27.857. 'Expenditure on recreational huts was £287.464. and on
furniture for them, £103,317. Wool supplied to voluntary .workers for knitting scarves, mittens and other articles for service personnel cost £165,111, these items alone representing only part of the many-sided activities of the patriotic organisation. The total was £583,749.
