Italian Fighting Dies Down In Bad Weather
(Roc. 11 a.m.) LONDON, April 27. Land and air fighting in Italy has slackened off still more because rain and mist are again shrouding the front lines, states Reuter’s correspondent at Allied headquarters. Harassing artillery and mortar fire continues at Cassino and elsewhere on the Garigliano front. Italy-based planes, as a result of the weather yesterday established a record of inactivity, flying only eight routine patrols instead of the usual 1500 soidies.
It is revealed'that long-range Mustang lighters are now operating from Italy, escorting Allied heavy bombeis during attacks on rail communications in the Balkans. Mustangs already have shot down 36 planes in 300 sorties lor the loss of 12 planes.
