In a plea for leniency. Mr 1 S. Clarke pointed out that prisoner's service record had made him much sought by the girl in question.

The Judge commented that young girls largely depended for safety on the honour of such men as associated with them. In view of the fact that prisoner had been a month in custody lie was sentenced to five months’ hard labour.
