The basis 'on which appeals will be received is as under: 1— From any farmer who desires to obtain fertiliser for topdressing purposes and who has no allocation for fertiliser at present. 2 From any farmer who can show that by basing his fertiliser allocation on the 2 years ended May 31, j 194.1, he was unduly penalised. It should be clearly understood that any tonnage of fertiliser allocated by the Committee will not be available before July 1. 1944. Also that no appeal received after April 30, 1944, will be considered. Appeals MUST be lodged on special form obtainable from merchants or tiiis office. (Letters should not be sent.) SECURITY TAX /CHARGE on Income other than Salary or Wages: MAY Instalment —Taxpayers are reminded that the first quarterly instalment of the combined charge on income other than salary or wages derived during the year ended March 31, 1944. falls due on May 1. Amounts unpaid within one month following the due date incur 10U penalty. The charge is payable by: (a) All persons aged 16 years or over ordinarily resident in New Zealand (including natives but excluding persons receiving total disability war pensions in respect of service in the 1914-1919 war.)

(b) All trustees in respect or income derived by the estate or trust, whether or not the beneficiaries are entitled to receive such income during the income year. Declarations of such income must be furnished in May on Form S.S.C. 55, or, in the case of Trustees, on Forms S.S.C. 55A. and the first instalment of Iho charge computed at the rate of Id for every 8d or part thereof (2 6 in the £) paid in accordance with the instructions thereon. The declaration, together whh the amount payable, should be presented at a Money-Order Post Office or forwarded to the Commissioner of Taxes. Wellington, C. 3. A return of income made by any company is deemed to be a return of chargeable income for the purpose of the Social Security Act, 1938; a separate declaration of income is not necessary. An assessment, followed by a demand for the combined charge will be issued in due course, as in the case of income tax. SOCIAL SECURITY REGISTRA- j TION FEE—An instalment of this fee (5/-) becomes due on May 1, 1944, by! all persons aged 16 years or over ordinarily resident in New Zealand who are not exempt. Exemption details and forms may be obtained at Money-Order Offices. Every person entitled to exemption (including those receiving age benefits under the Social Security Act but no other income) must complete the exemption application form and present it with his 1 or her coupon book at a MoneyOrder Cffice within seven days after <he last day for payment of the instalment. otherwise payment may be demanded. All persons who are in receipt of Monetary Benefits under the Social Security Act, 1938, other than sickness and unemployment benefits, and all persons entitled to payments under the War Pensions Act, must produce their coupon book when claiming the instalment payable in the month of June. The surname and full Christian names, residential address and name and address of employer (if any) must be entered on the relative coupon before payment of any instalment. The present series Registration Fee Coupon Book (Levy), held by Female Contributors expires with the payment of the May, 1944, instalment and a new Coupon Book (second series), commencing with the May, 1945, must be uplifted. .An employer employing for more than seven days a person unregistered or in arrear with the Registration Fee is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of £2O—F.
