Only One Reason For Censorship- Security

NEW YORK. April 27

The necessity for returning to the fundamental principle that the only reason for censorship is military security, was emphasised by the president (Mr Linwood Noyes), addressing the annual meeting of the American Newspaper Publishers’ Association. He added that censorship must not be used for political purposes, domestic or international, nor should it be used to conceal inefficiency or cover uo blunders.

Mr Noyes noted that the question of war news censorship had come increasingly -to the fore recently and said that generally those entrusted with the leadership of our fighting men used good judgment in releasing news, but unfortunately there had been exceptions which provoked criticism. Argentine Paper Banned The Argentine Government today banned the Buenos Aii'es newspaper. “La Prensa,” for five days because of an allegedly' misleading and false editorial criticising the municipal hospital services. The United Press points out that “La Pi'ensa,” South America’s leading daily, recently criticised the Government restrictions on the Press. Also it has been consistently pro-Ally.
