Fine Location For N.Z. Pacific Hospital
(P.A.) ' WELLINGTON. This Day Impressions of a recent visit to New Caledonia, with particular reference to facilities available for New Zealand forces and the self-help and ability displayed by New Zealanders are given by Mr. E. E. Brooking, of Wellington. He. in company with Hon. Vincent Ward, represented the National Patriotic Fund Beard at the official opening of a new club at Bcurail Beach recently. Mr. Brooking said: ‘ The main hospital is built on a position very similar to Silverstream, but instead of all being on one level, the hillside has been terraced and the wards arc situated one above the other, so that there is a wonderful outlook, and any breeze has free access to each ward.
"The equipment is second to none, and the medical profession has spoken in glowing terms of the whole set-up. Parents and wives of boys wounded or sick in this area will be relieved to know that they are in the most up-to-date hospital, receiving the best medical attention, and cared for by an army of courageous nurses who do not spare themselves in a most trying climate. Al! patients speak in glowing terms of tire treatment, they receive.” Mr. Ward referred to the use troops make of boxes, in which they receive patriotic comforts. Wellington province is responsible for 18.000 of the patriotic parcels sent overseas each quarter. One hope has been held Hint something could lie done with the boxes and the troops are using them to make chairs, cupboards and so on. No limber is wasled.
