More Members on Power Board For the first time, I-lokianga and Whangaroa Counties will be represented directly on the Bay of Islands Electric-power Board when the local body elections are over on May 27. Not reticulated for supply of power as yet, both counties were two years ago transferred from the board's outer district to its inner area. Two members will represent Hokianga, placing it on an even footing with the Bay and Mangonui counties, while one will be elected by Whangaroa. There will now be nine members round the board table instead of six.

Nordmeyer In North The Minister for Health (Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer). accompanied by Dr. Watt. Mr S. W. Smith. M.P. for the Bay of Islands, visited Kailaia on Wednesday to meet the Mangonui Hospital Board. The meeting was heid in committee and no report could be given. The Minister said he would make an announcement to the Press at an early date, and that he would communicate with the board before the local body elections. The Minister and his party left Kaitaia for Kneo in the afternoon to meet members of the Whangaroa Hospital Board. Today he met the WHangarei Board, concluding his tour of Northland.

Whangarei Airman in Drama The first New Zealand Ventura which participated in the dramatic air-sea rescue of the crew of an American plane off Japanese-occupied I3a!la!e Island, south of Bougainville, was piloted by Flying-Officer E. Miller, of Whangarei. not Auckland as incorrectly cabled yesterday. Son of Mr and Mrs Hugh Miller, of Portland, and formerly of Kamo Road, lie was educated at the Whangarei High School, where he gained distinction as an athlete. He won junior representative Rugby honours for Whangarei. At the time of his enlistment he was employed in the Public Trust Office. It was Flying-Officer Miller's plane which located the distressed Americans and kept guard over them while another New Zealand Ventura went for assistance.
