Want Shooting Season Extended; Oppose North Amalgamation
(Special) MANGONUI, This Day. A resolution carried almost unanimously by the Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatisation Society, at the annual meeting held at Mangonui on Saturday, was to the effect that it apply to the Minister for an extension of the time for shooting imported game, to June 30.
The meeting was well attended, between 60 and 70 being present, and was of a very enthusiastic nature.
The election of officers resulted: President, Mr J. O’Sullivan (reelected); vice-president. Mr W. R. Craig (re-elected): committee. F. Richards (Awanui), A. Shepherd (Peria) and J. Sowter (P'ukepoto). Those are all new members, the retiring committee not seeking re-election." Three resolutions were put to the meeting and carried:—
‘‘That in view of the frequently do* layed rainy season in the Far North, the Minister be advised that in future the society will be pressing for a longer season, for waterfowl especially, as they are on the increase in the society’s district.”
‘‘That this representative annual meeting of the Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatisation Society is not in favour of the amalgamation of the four northern societies.”
‘‘That this meeting is not in favour of taking a postal ballot of . licenseholders on the question of the amalgamation of the northern societies, nor on any other matter affecting the independent status of this society.”
