BIG MOVES ON WAR BOARD.
WHILE the whole world, but especially Germany, anxiously awaits the believed-to-be-imminent invasion of Europe from the west, attention is necessarily directed to the Pacific, where events of far-reaching* importance are being recorded daily.
General MacArthur is steadily, and in some instances quickly, developing the offensive he launched after the defensive warfare waged while Allied strength was being gathered at points from v I ich great blows might be struck.
At the moment there is evidence that the whole of British New Guinea may soon be rid of the enemy, and that further bypassings, which have changed the outlook in a large section of the South-West Pacific, may be continued to such good purpose that a huge Japanese force scattered over islands big and small will be isolated. A great strategic plan is unfolding, and dramatic developments are to be expected. Meanwhile, the blasting of Germany and German-occupied territory is taking place on such a scale that it is difficult to believe it is other than the forerunner of an unprecedented move on the ehequerboard of Europe.
