End Normandie Repairs

NEW YORK. April 26.

Navy officials have disclosed that all reconstruction work nn the former liner Normandie has been halted because it would be sheer folly to continue attempts to make iter serviceable, reports the Washington correspondent of the “Herald-Tribune.” They added that it would be better to put the required men and materials into making three other ships than to concentrate on the old Normandie. The “Tribune" says there are indications that manpower and materials are cnly a secondary consideration and the paper recalls that the Senate Naval Affairs Committee report called the fire a disguised blessing, because the ship was reported to be unstable and might easily have been lost at sea if heavily loaded.
