(PA) WELLINGTON, Wednesday ! The following R.N.Z.A.F. personnel have i boon awarded decorations for conspicuous service in the European war theatre, acI cording to official advice received by the Air Department. They are:— Distinguished Service Order Flight-Lieutenant Malcolm Robert Head, Auckland. Distinguished Flying Medal Flight-Sergeant Bernard William Windsor. Christchurch. [ The citation to Flt.-Lieutenant Head s 1 award states that in air operations he has | always shown skill, courage and fortitude of the highest order. He was reported missing on air operations in July, 1943, and later notification was received to the ! effect that he was a prisoner of war m Italy He escaped and reached England. In February, this year, suffering from a broken arm which had healed but still required some medical attention, after receiving the necessary treatment, he returned to operations. Flt.-Lieutenant Head, who is 26, joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in island after completing his training in Canada. was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in 1942 He was promoted to FlyingOfficer in 1942 and to Flight-Lieutenant in April of this year. His birthplace was Fetone and he was educated at the Southland Boys’ High School, Canterbury College and Otago University. He graduated Bachelor of Engineering (mechanical) with honours, and completed the major portion of his Bachelor of Science degree Prior'to his enlistment in the R.N.Z.A.F. Flt.-Lieutenant Head was employed on engineering work by the Dunedin City Council and Cadbury. Fry, Hudson, Ltd. His father, Mr. A. W. Head, is superintendent of Awarua Radio Station, Awarua, Southland.
