Shortage Of Drums For Molasses Shipments

(.Spec.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Ah explanation of the difficulty being experienced by the Department of Supply in the distribution of molasses to farmers was given at the monthly meeting of the Auckland Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. It was stated that the department obtained from the army, after considerable difficulty, 59GC drums for conveyance of molasses from Australia. These have been made available for ,1500 tons of a 20, GOO-ton order placed with the Commonwealth. Distribution has been undertaken by the Internal Marketing Division which made an extra charge of £2/10/- for each drum, this being refunded on return. Only about 500 drums, however, have been returned. The department had placed an order for a further 2000 tons for the current year, but unless the drums were returned immediately, fanners would be faced with a shortage of molasses during the winter.
