N.Z. Gift To Lepers In New Caledonia
<Official N.Z.E.F. News Service) NEW CALEDONIA, April 15. To be utilised for the benefit of lepers in this area, a substantial gift from the people of New Zealand has been handed by the acting British Consul in Noumea (Squadron-Leader Laughton Brantley \ 1,1 the Director of Public Health in Now Caledonia (Dr. C. S. Sellier). Selected and sent to New Caledonia by the Lepers' Trust Board of New Zealand, the offering comprises clothing, haberdashery, tinned foods, cigarettes, tobacco and biscuits. Expressing thanks, Dr. Sellier said that the gift, totalling in value about £W), would bring much happiness to over 400 patients in leper hospitals under his jutisdiction. It was a gesture of assistance to lepers in French territory, particularly as New Zealand already had an obligation tp lepers in Makogai. j
