Need Spirit Qualities Of St. George Today

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. "St. George typifies the age-long; battle against the dragon of tyranny, which has been a distinguishing mark of English history, and in tiie.se war years, when Britain and the countries of the British Commonwealth are engaged in the greatest war against tyranny of all time, it is peculiarly fitting that we should celebrate this day,” said Sir Harry Batterbee, in an address at a .St. George's Day service at St. Paul’s Cathedral. "Above all, it is right we should celebrate it.’this year, when the armies of England are about to go forth on a great crusade to rescue the countries of Europe from the dragon of oppression, torture and cruelty. We stand today on the threshold of tremendous events which will settle the pattern of our civilisation for generations to erne. Even across thousands of miles ot ocean, we can feel the hush of expec-la tion before the curtain goes up on a great and terrible drama. Today the people of England have been called to prayer ,and all Englishmen and Englishwomen arc praying for the victory of our armies.’’

•Speaking of the future. Sir Marry said that a better world could only he built if every individual faithfully and honestly laid the one or two bricks which it was in his power to lay. building the walls gradually and always keeping before his eyes the purpose of the whole building—progress and advancement of all mankind. This could only come gradually and as a result of much planning, replanning and long striving. If we were to accomplish anything of a lastingworth, we would need those finalities of the spirit which were typified by St. George—faith, courage, daring and sacrifice.
