British Tanks Climb Hill 2000 ft. High

(8.0. W) RUGBY, April 23 British tanks shot up a Japanese force in Burma by climbing a hill 2000 feet high late at night and catching the enemy in a trap. The headlights of the tanks, says a Delhi correspondent, were switched on the enemy and tank gunners and machine gunners in nests nearby opened a terrific fire.

Another Delhi message tells of Gurkha activities far behind the enemy lines. In one instance a Gurkha party attacked a village where the Japanese were entrnched in foxholes and bunkers, first with Tommy guns and grenades, then with kukris and bayonets. Many Japanese fled screaming across the village. After fierce fighting, 500 retreated and for 10 days no Japanese was seen in the area. In another encounter the Japanese were beaten back for a distance of 70 yards from landing across a paddy field, a Japanese commanding officer being killed
