N.Z. Willing For U.S. To Have Pacific Bases
WASHINGTON, April 23
Senator Connally disclosed that the New Zealand Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser) told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that New Zealand was willing that the United States should have military and naval bases in the South and South-West Pacific after the war.
Senator Connally declined to say which places were specifically mentioned. but said that the Marshalls and Carolines were included in the discussions. Mr Fraser denied that the Canberra Pact was aimed at the United States. Senator Connally added that Mr Fraser had made a very interesting and helpful statement.
