(8.0. W.) RUGBY, April 12. What may prove one of the most important conferences in the history of. Britain’s coalmining industry is being helS in London today, writes an industrial correspondent. Delegates from the coalfields are meeting to discuss the serious situation in the industry, and miners’ leaders are seeking authority from them to continue negotiations with the Government and owners, also a mandate to enter into a final settlement. Recent strikes have put the miners’ leaders in an awkward position. The men stayed out against the advice of their leaders, who had accepted the Government’s four-year plan. They are now seeking a mandate from the miners, and there is some talk of the resignations of leaders if this is not forthcoming. With resumption of work a more peaceful atmosphere prevails in the industry, although it- is known that many districts have voted against the Government’s proposals. Nation-Wide Manhunt The capture of Rawling Tease followed a nation-wide man-hunt lasting four days. Searches were made in London, Nottingham, Manchester and Newcastle. Teale, who is a cripple, was seen last Friday crossing the Scottish border and heading south. Apparently he doubled back for he was arrested in Glasgow.
