High Command’s New Outlook On Artillery
WASHINGTON. April 12. The War Production Board has authorised an overriding priority, placing heavy artillery on a par with invasion landing-craft as the most urgent items in the whole production programme. Many observers believe that the action reflects a High Command revaluation of artillery’s effectiveness as a result of battle experience in Italy, where air power failed to live up to predictions, and American forces are now using 240 millimetre Howitzers.
