Met Too Many Friends
(Special) KAITAIA, This Day. Charged with being found drunk in a public place—Kaitaia—on March 15, Frederick Te Maru, of Pukepoto. appeared at the Kaitaia Police Court before the magistrate (Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M.) and was convicted and discharged. Defendant, who is a returned soldier of the 2/N.Z.E.F.. had arrived in Kaitaia about noon and had frequented the hotel. The licensee had occasion to tell him he had bad sufficient. His conduct was not the best, and his language bad. He was taken to the police station late in the afternoon, and had spent the night in the cells.
Te Maru’s excuse was that he had met too many friends, but lie was not willing io accept, the magistrate’s advice that he prohibit himself for. a year and give himself a chance to settle down.
“It was just a slip yesterday. A year is a long time, sir,” said Te Maru. “Well, don’t make yourself a nuisance here again. I will know what to do if you do,” warned the magistrate.
