Restrict Wool Imports
WASHINGTON, March 21. A prediction that Congress would act to restrict wool imports from Australia, was made bv Mr. William Hill, a member of the House of Representatives agricultural sub-committee, investigating the wooi situation. He said: “We now realise that our oven industry is lacing ruin.” He added thaat the hearing, a war production official had declared that wool had been assigned to (he lowest priority rating for import but sizeable amounts were still arriving in ships which otherwise return in ballast. He said the War Production Board lacks power io restrict imports. Mr. Hill commented: “If the board lacks power, it is up to Congress to halt imports. lam sure we will do so.” The sub-committee also heard a report that the United Stales wool reserve may roach 2,0C0.000.000 lbs.
