Vice-Regal Visit To King Koroki
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) accompanied by Lady Newall, will pay his first official visit to King Koroki and Princess Te Puea Herangi, C.8.E., at Turanga-Waewae Pa, Ngaruawahia, on Saturday. A'previously arranged visit had to be postponed becuse of war developments. The Vice-Regal Party will arrive at Ngaruawahia at 10.15 a.m., and proceed to a landing-place on the Waipa River, where they will embark on the ancient war canoe. Te Winika/ This canoe Jay hidden for many years at the mouth of the Waikato River. The hull was reconditioned under the direction of Princess Te Puea. and was used on a previous occasion, when the late Lord Galway visited Ngaruawahia. Ou arrival at TurangaWaewae, Their Excellencies will be received by Major Paul Te Punga and Captain Whetu Werohia, and an inspection ol a Maori guard of honour will be made by the Governor. Loyalty of Waikato Tribes After the traditional ceremonial, an illuminated address expressing the loyalty of the Tainui tribes to the Throne will be presented to His Excellency by King Koroki. The text of tin- address has been handsomely embossed in gold lettering, and is strictly in accordance with tribal tradition. "On this our ancestral marac of Turanga-Waewae,” it. reads, "and from the threshold of Mahinarangi House, we are happy to pay our tribute and express our love and affection for His Majesty King George, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Today, Your Excellency, we salute in you the few to whom so much is owed by so many.”
King Koroki will also pay tribute to the Maori dead in this war. as follows: "In the still watches of the night come the spirits of the brave. We hold back our tears of sorrow for our fallen heroes to salute tne gallant sons of Aotcaroa.”
