Cost —The War Production Board has announced that, ihe war is now costing the United States 300.000,000 dollars daily. February reached a new high of 7.808,000,000 dollars. Prom July 1. 1940 to March 1, 1944 Ihe total was 108.600,000.000 dollars.
Casualties.—American losses at Empress Augusta. Bay. Bougainville, were 130 compared with at least 117:1 Japanese dead, said (lie United States War Secretary (.Mr. Slimson) quoted in a Washington message.
Puppet.—The Puppet Premier (Wang Cliitlg Wei) is reported to he critically ill in Nanking, following the extraction of a bullet from an old wound suffered during an attempted assassination years ago. Wang has been unconscious for several days.
Killed.—As a result of a head-on collision with a taxi, a cyclist named Orry Richard Gullery, 17, fisherman, was killed practically instantaneously at Picton yesterday afternoon. Although the accident occurred outside a doctor’s residence the injured man was beyond aid.
